I was deeply inspired by the research vision of my high school classmate, Akira Ito, DVM, Ph.D. With extensive experience in veterinary pharmaceuticals and animal health, Akira has long been driven by a desire to improve the health and well-being of animals around the world. Sharing that vision, we founded Hokkaido Green Pharma Corporation together.
Although both of us were born and raised in Tokyo, we were independently drawn to Hokkaido’s magnificent natural environment and eventually made Hokkaido the base for our work and our lives. After high school, we pursued completely different paths and hardly saw each other for many years.
Then, nearly 40 years later, our paths crossed again here in Hokkaido. Akira had built his career in veterinary medicine, while I had pursued engineering and business development. Bringing together the expertise we had developed in these very different fields became the starting point of Hokkaido Green Pharma.
My professional background is in electrical engineering and new business development. At Hokkaido Electric Power Co., Inc., I worked in renewable energy and hydropower, while also gaining experience in transforming new ideas and technologies into practical products and sustainable businesses. I am not a specialist in veterinary medicine, and that is precisely why I see my role as supporting Akira’s expertise from the perspectives of engineering and business development, and helping turn research results and technologies into viable businesses.
Our liquid supplement for dogs and cats, INANCL, is one example of what this combination of expertise can achieve. The liquid itself was developed from Akira’s veterinary knowledge and research and manufacturing expertise. To make it convenient and practical for customers, we developed a product format using an ultra-compact retort pouch, enabling us to preserve our commitment to an additive-free formulation while achieving both ease of use and long-term storage.
At Hokkaido Green Pharma, we will continue combining expertise from different fields to create new value in animal health here in Hokkaido and bring it to the world. By collaborating with researchers, veterinarians, companies, and other partners in Japan and overseas, we aim to develop new products, technologies, and services that contribute to the health and well-being of animals around the world.
